Recently, an activity with the topic of “studying Yangzhou Opera, spreading traditional Chinese culture” was held in Jufu Community, Huaisi Town, Hanjiang District, Yangzhou City. International students from countries along “Belt and Road” such as Bangladesh and Yemen, and etc. participated in the learning of Yangzhou Opera, including the makeup part, experiencing the opera costume, and performing by interacting with opera hobbyist. They fully feel the charming of Yangzhou Opera by this activity.

At 10am, in the convenience hall of Jufu community, a melodious singing voice was heard. In order to let the international students have a preliminary impression of Yangzhou Opera, hobbyist of Yangzhou opera performed part of a classic opera, "The Magpies on the Branches", which won a shower of applause. The international students were completely immersed in the exquisite singing, and can not help tapping the hands gently.

After the performance, the students were eager to try. When they heard they could experience by themselves, they can not believe their ears. “Really?” said FARA DORITE MEKONNEN, and she even confirmed by Chinese again.    

After put on the makeup, FARA DORITE MEKONNEN seemed like a rich beautiful lady, and several boys seemed like a ministry councillor, a page boy, or even a rich lady from ancient times in China individually.

Under the guidance of the head of Yangzhou Opera troupe, these international students with costume and makeup started to learn the action and singing of the opera, and gradually felt the charming of traditional Chinese culture.

“I am a Chinese girl”, said SIAM MOHSIN ALI with his newly learned orchid fingers. He also said, “Chinese culture is profound. The etiquette of ancient women is very complicated, and it is very hard for me to learn”.  

SIAM MOHSIN ALI did not mind having a role as a female. He said, “It is better to be humble to learn culture. You can learn nothing if refuting according to common sense.  "This event makes me feel more interested in traditional Chinese opera culture",said FARA DORITE MEKONNEN. She also said that she would tell her family and friends about this experience as well as her understanding of Chinese opera and Chinese culture. Many international students said that this learning experience helped them understand traditional Chinese culture deeply.
