At the invitation of the Business School at Yangzhou University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences researcher Yang Xiaoguang delivered an academic lecture entitled "Baumol's Disease and Numerical Intelligence Services" at the Business School on January 18, 2024.
He pointed out that "Baumol's disease" refers to a phenomenon discovered by the economist Baumol, in which the proportion of the technology progressive sector in the total economy decreases while the proportion of the technology stagnant sector increases. The fundamental cause of "Baumol's disease" lies in the differing willingness to pay behind the different levels of satisfaction from human being’s needs. Meanwhile, the management of numerical intelligence services requires the development of new business models for the identification of real and potential heterogeneity in numerical intelligence service entities and products, understanding their mechanisms, and establishing sound management and regulatory mechanisms.
Yang Xiaoguang is a researcher at the Institute of Mathematics and Systems Science at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chairman of the Chinese Society of Systems Engineering, the Vice Chairman of the Eurasian Association for Systems Science Research, a Special Contribution Expert of the State Council.
